The Forum provides a structured platform for liaison between the RICS, IRRV and RSA, and the VOA and Valuation Tribunal Service (VTS) in respect of electronic communications.

Its core purpose is to ensure that electronic communication processes between ratepayers, their advisers, the VOA and VTS operate effectively, and to provide a forum to explore and implement improvements to those systems.  This includes engagement not only with professional bodies and government agencies, but also with relevant software providers.

A nominated liaison representative acts on behalf of the professional bodies, attending meetings with the VOA and VTS, contributing to the development of communication processes, and reporting back on changes or enhancements to members and committees as appropriate.

The eComms group meets once per month with the VOA, private practice, and software providers to communicate updates on the API and the Government Gateway website. Any issues encountered on Government Gateway (check & challenge) or the Valuation Tribunal (appeal) is fed back to the group.

The role does not typically require attendance at all professional body committee meetings, but regular reporting and engagement is expected.

Bjorn Bowles is the current RSA representative on the eComms Forum.
